Thoughts of an Author
To Ernie with Love

Ernie Harwell, a retired announcer for the Detroit Tigers, told the world that he had been diagnosed with an incurable cancer, and had declined surgery. He stated that he feels well, is writing a book, and will put his faith in God to determine what his experiences will entail.
There are those who will say, "Well, the man is 91 years old, has lived a long life, why deal with the surgery?" I say, Ernie has discovered that his life is not defined by the sum total of years that his body remains on earth, but by the moral and divine qualities he lives--qualities such as wisdom, persistence, perserverance, integrity, and how well he "played the game." His game is baseball, but his life is trustworthiness, stability and integrity. Listening to the excitement in his voice as he gave a play-by-play of the game, one had a sense of fairness, sincerity and strong awareness of what was really going on. You didn't have to be present at the "old ball park" to trust that what you were hearing is the way it was.
As we move from this life to the next phase, if we have called the right plays and painted the true pictures, the legacy we leave behind will continue to connect with the world in a positive manner.
Ernie, the Detroit family loves you and sends prayers to support and guide you and your family. We know that only true health and harmony are ahead of you.
